The tide of Gold Rush - playing as an attacker or defender
Attackers need to destroy gold crates, either by shooting the crates or by placing a special charge on them if they manage to get in close. For each set of crates they take, they'll get a boost to their reinforcement's pool. If they destroy all the crates, they win the round.
Defenders need to kill off all the attackers' reinforcement reserves before they manage to open all the crates. Each set of crates destroyed will open up a new area on the map to fight over. To win the fight, they need to eliminate all the attackers.
Being objective based, the Gold Rush game mode creates choke points where fierce encounters between defending and attacking teams will take place, and depending on what side you are on you will have to deploy different tactics to be victorious. During the countless and intense play tests in the DICE office it has been experienced that the outcome of the fights and what team wins has changed over time, as players become more familiar with the strategic choices at hand. At first, among a group of players relatively inexperienced with the game mode, defenders seem to be winning more often as the attackers run into the traps of the defending team. Gradually, though, there are a lot of strategic choices that the attacking team can deploy to turn the tide.
